Cost of Living in Vietnam for Expats
Vietnam remains one of the most affordable countries for expats. Rent, food, and services are typically lower than in Western countries, though prices vary by city and lifestyle.
Rent
In Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, a one-bedroom in an expat area can range from $400–$800/month; two-bedrooms from $600–$1,200. Da Nang and smaller cities are often cheaper. Serviced apartments cost more but include utilities and cleaning.
Utilities and internet
Electricity, water, and internet for a typical apartment often total $50–$150/month. Fibre internet is widely available and inexpensive.
Food and transport
Eating out is cheap: local meals from $2–5, Western meals $5–15. Motorbike rental is common ($50–80/month). Grab and taxis are affordable for getting around.
